The sofa brothers create a brand and invite you to dare to “SIT ON IT”
“Please, do not sit on the sofa, thank you!”
When you go to a furniture store to buy a sofa, look at the sofa with a good design, but there is a sign on the seat saying “Do not sit”, won’t it leave you wondering with many questions?
“Is it uncomfortable to sit on the sofa, or is the store simply worried that it will stain or break?”
However, the only sofa showroom established in Ipoh town – 10, Jalan Raja Ekram is different, because the store not only welcomes customers to sit down but also boldly names the sofa brand “SIT ON IT”, challenging you to dare to sit.
This uniquely named sofa brand was founded by Lim’s family brothers from Ipoh Menglembu. Samuel Lim, the second child who is currently the creative director of the company, said that the brothers were registered as de CHESTERFIELD SOFA HOUSE years ago, ready to make a big impact in the sofa industry.
“As for the name of the sofa brand, I was shopping one day and saw a sofa store, but there was a sign on the seat that wrote, “Please do not sit down.” That’s when I decided why don’t I name my sofa brand “SIT ON IT.”
He explained that this is because the brands insist on the concept of “you will never know it’s good or bad if you don’t try on it”, so customers who visit their showroom are very welcome to sit down. And they will share with customers how to sit on the couch and why or how the sofa is made, so the sofa brand is named “SIT ON IT”, aptly.
When asked why he had confidence in his sofa, he stressed that although their brand was only founded for a year, they have been involved in the sofa manufacturing industry since childhood, especially the elder brother Lim Teong Yee who has been working in this industry for more than 25 years.
“Because we are from a poor family, and since we are young, we went to work for the sofa factory in our hometown. And this is also the largest sofa exporter in Malaysia. Most of their products are exported to Japan, Dubai, and Italy. We are having an opportunity to be responsible for leading our own production line and it’s also the best production line of the company “
In this way. They learn the knowledge and technology of how to make high-quality sofas from the exporters, the most important thing is how to focus on making high-quality sofas.
He pointed out that the Japanese have a high standard of living and the sofa is no exception.
“So, with years of experience, the most important thing is to understand the combination of design and materials. All the sofas we produce, including the well-organized “Classical Chesterfield Sofas”, are comparable to well-known foreign brands.”
Custom made of sofa materials and sofa sizes
After graduating from high school, Samuel Lim has left the sofa industry to study interior design and work in Singapore. After years of discovery, he found that his hometown is still the best place, so he decided to move the interior design business back to Ipoh.
However, Ipoh’s fine furniture options are very limited and often make it difficult for customers to choose a good sofa, including good design, good combination of colour and suitable or comfortable size. Therefore, the elder brother Lim Teong Yee who owns his own sofa factory is one of their life-saving straws.
“My brothers, although producing a good quality sofa, has supplied the sofas to middlemen and then resold them to other furniture stores for so many years, and It is a pity that he does not have his own brand.”
In view of this, Samuel Lim had a whim before the years. It is suggested that the brothers should join hands in the sofa industry again. let the elder brother Lim Teong Yee in-charge of the production line. and he will be responsible for brand founded, marketing and designing.
He pointed out that this proposal not only got the consent of the elder brother, but even the younger brother Max Lim who had changed the runway from the sofa industry also served as a guide. He also agreed to work with the two brothers to establish a sofa brand belonging to the Lim’s family.
“However, what we want to produce is not a general mass production sofa, but a boutique sofa with a custom-made route and with a very reasonable price. It also has to provide a good after-sales service.”
“More specifically, customers can also choose the material and colour of the sofa and even the size of the sofa at our suggestion. Now the sofa consumers no longer need to spend a lot of time going to different furniture stores to buy a sofa they like.”
Market potential is great, boutique sofas are not afraid of competition
Quality and price are always in opposition, and the price of a boutique sofa is definitely higher than the price of the mass production sofa. However, based on the huge sofa market, “SIT ON IT” insists on selling the sofa at the most reasonable price and it’s without fear of markets’ competition.
“Often people will give good advice. i recommend setting up the store in the larger market like in Kuala Lumpur or big city, etc., after all, Ipoh’s spending power is low, and the boutique sofa is difficult to survive.”
However, Samuel Lim emphasized that the sofa is an indispensable piece of furniture for the home. How many new houses are built in town, in other words, it means how many sets of new sofas are needed, and not included in customers who are due to replace the damage of the old sofa, they are already a very big market in town.
“At the same time, “SIT ON IT” is the brand for people to pursue the boutique sofa, to us is not just to make a profit, but is to provide the good quality and comfortable sofa with a most reasonable price.”.
For example, a well-known brand of sofa may cost tens to hundreds of thousands of ringgits, but the “SIT ON IT” sofa only takes thousands of ringgits to take off. And “SIT ON IT” now markets out a “entry sofa – Max series” with a very low price to benefit their early bird customer.
Samuel Lim also said that the company will focus on educating customers on how to choose a good sofas, including giving a clear explanation on the seat or back height of the sofa should be, material / colour / texture selection and combination, how the woodwork structure frame are made and durability of material, so that customers can get to know more of the making of boutique sofa. And to understand the differences between the boutique sofa and mass production or low-cost sofas.
“When more and more people get to know how to choose a better sofa, the market for boutique sofas will grow bigger and bigger, and as an Ipoh person, we also hope that Ipoh people know how to choose a sofa and to buy a comfortable and durable sofa.”
In addition, he said that although the “SIT ON IT” base camp is in Ipoh, if the transportation of goods delivery problem is solved, people in any area of any country also have a chance to buy our sofa. and he also has sold the sofas to customers from Singapore.
